How does the Kalix Legacy Foundation (KLF) help?

  • The Kalix Legacy Foundation provides financial assistance through grants to children from families facing financial barriers, so they can participate in recognized sports programs within Airdrie, AB

  • KLF can help outfit the child with required sports equipment

Who is eligible to receive a Kalix Legacy Foundation grant?

  • Families who are facing financial difficulties - low income, on AISH, or receiving income support through the provincial government are all considered eligible

  • KLF considers the social and economic barriers facing the family when determining eligibility

  • Grants are for children between the ages of 5-17

  • Families must reside in the city of Airdrie and must be participating in sports programs within Airdrie.

  • If youth age 13-17, is trying to compete in an elite sport (examples include but are not limited to AMHA AAA, AMHA AA, elite dance) and would qualify due to financial difficulties you are welcomed to apply for additional funds through our extenuating circumstances application. These funds are limited and there is a maximum level of support we can offer per calendar year. Please note that we assess and approve applications based on funding available, as well as the number of applications we have coming in.

  • KLF equipment grant can only be used at participating stores within Airdrie.

  • Children who have experienced the recent loss of a parent or sibling are eligible for a one-time bereavement grant.

What does a KLF grant cover?

  • KLF provides financial support for registration fees for all sports through recognized

    organizations in Airdrie to a maximum of $500 per calendar year per child. Please

    note that we assess and approve applications based on funding available, as well as the

    amount of applications we have coming in.

  • Consideration for specialized training and camps can also be requested, but grants will

    be considered as funds are available.

  • KLF supports enrollment in house league / community sports and programming

    (examples include but are not limited to AMHA, ADSA, NCSA, local dance studios).

  • KLF provides access to proper fitting required sports equipment.

  • KLF does not cover team cash call amounts, transportation or tournament fees.

When is the deadline to apply?

  • Applications can be made year round however programs that are already finished are

    not eligible for funding.

  • It is best to submit your applications to KLF as soon as you register your child in the

    sports program as funding per year is limited.

How to apply?

  • Find a sport program your child would like to join and register.

  • Find the application form, fill it in and submit it via email to

    kalixlegacyfoundation@hotmail.com or contact us if you prefer a paper copy.

  • Complete all the sections of the application.

  • Apply for all applicable grants (KidSport, JumpStart, Hockey Canada).

  • Notify the sports organization that you are requesting funds from KLF

Applications are generally reviewed by the Kalix Legacy Foundation within 30 days. Funds for approved applications will be given to the sports organization directly. You will receive an email confirming your application result. Incomplete applications will delay the process.

Privacy / Confidentiality

The Kalix Legacy Foundation respects your privacy.  We never sell, trade or loan your information to any other organization.  Information provided in this application is being collected for the purpose of administering a KLF grant.  This information will only be disclosed to KLF personnel who need the information to carry out the responsibilities of their job, and to other organizations who may need to be contacted in order to process the application.
